Mr. Uche Charles, a Superintendent of Narcotics Abia NDLEA Command, gave the advice on Thursday and Friday, to the 2024 Batch “B” Stream II Corps members in Abia NYSC orientation camp while delivering the NDLEA lecture.

Speaking on the topic – Drug Abuse, Dangers and The Role of Corps Members in Combating Substance Abuse, Mr. Charles who defined drug as, ‘any chemical substance that, when taken into the body, affects the way the body functions, including substances taken for curative purposes to treat ailments or injuries’, appealed to the Corps Members to join the agency in the fight against drugs and substance abuse by joining the Drug Free Club CDS group when posted, in order to step down the ‘Say No to Drugs’ campaign to the grassroot. Earlier, he had enumerated the stages of drug abuse and the various signs of substance abuse.

In a related development,
Mr. Goddy Onwuchekwa, an Assistant Director, Information and Public Relations, National Orientation Agency, (NOA) while delivering the value reorientation lecture to the Corps Members advised them to imbibe the national core values of discipline, integrity, dignity of labour, social justice, religious tolerance, self reliance, patriotism, which according to him are time-tested values needed for national growth and development. He stated that the ‘change begins with me’ mantra of the federal government, if imbibed will help to restore our value system and rekindle our nationalistic approach to issues that will lead to development of the country.

”It is not difficult to break into limelight, as talent can put you up in the spotlight, but character determines how long you stay there as talent without character does not go far, therefore, as youths, you have the capacity to take ownership of our national core values to a height that can be envied globally’, Mr. Onwuchekwa concluded.
