2024 B-2: Delta SC shares insight on NYSC scheme at orientation camp

The Delta State Coordinator of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Mr. Olusegun Alao, provided an in-depth overview of the NYSC scheme and the fundamental aspects of the orientation course program during his address to the 2024 Batch B Stream 2 prospective corps members.

Welcoming the new batch at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp in Issele-Uku, Mr. Alao elaborated on the rich history of the NYSC, emphasizing the importance of discipline and adherence to the scheme’s dress code. He further explained the camp administration process, detailing the distribution of kit items, the significance of platoon assignments, and the organization of daily camp activities.

Mr. Alao also addressed essential topics such as the orientation course structure, the feeding arrangements, and the security measures in place to ensure the safety of all corps members. He discussed the administration of hostels, the operations of the camp clinic, and the procedure for allowance disbursement.

In his briefing, the State Coordinator underscored the importance of understanding the NYSC Bye-Laws, the relocation and posting policies, and the role of the Man O’ War gadgets in the camp’s physical training. He also shed light on the responsibilities of key personnel, including the Corps Camp Director, Platoon Leaders, and various camp committees.

Mr. Alao emphasized the need for proper communication within the camp, advising on the correct channels for addressing concerns and the proper use of social media. He highlighted the significance of attending lectures and Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) training sessions, and encouraged active participation in camp activities such as the Orientation Broadcasting Service (OBS), religious gatherings, and the use of the suggestion box for feedback.

He also provided an overview of the NYSC’s integrated system and the structure of the NYSC within Delta State, ensuring that the prospective corps members were well-informed about what to expect during their service year.

The briefing by Mr. Alao was well-received, as it provided the new corps members with a comprehensive understanding of the NYSC scheme and the orientation course, setting the tone for a successful and impactful service year ahead.
