The 2024 Batch B Stream 2 Corps members at the permanent orientation camp in Iseyin, Oyo State, received insightful guidance on the Corps Inspection and Monitoring (CIM) unit of the NYSC Secretariat from Mr. Akinbode Muyiwa, a senior NYSC officer.
Mr. Akinbode elaborated on the role of CIM, explaining that it is responsible for overseeing the activities of corps members at their Places of Primary Assignment (PPA). He emphasized the importance of the Local Government Inspector (LGI), who serves as the closest point of contact for corps members once they are posted. He said LGI ensures proper conduct and adherence to NYSC policies at the local level.
Addressing the corps members on post-camp expectations, Mr. Akinbode stressed that after receiving their PPA letters, they should not return home immediately. Instead, they must report to the local government of their PPA, locate their LGI, and report to their assigned PPA in full uniform. He advised against influencing rejections or self-rejection, warning that such actions would attract appropriate punishment. He also outlined the steps to take, including obtaining an acceptance letter from the PPA and then proceed to apply for leave to get their belongings from home.
He further touched on the NYSC’s four cardinal programs, the orientation course, place of primary assignment (PPA), community development service(CDS), and passing out ceremony(POP) which are mandatory for all corps members. He cautioned that failure to complete any of these programs would result in the denial of the NYSC discharge certificate.
