Platoon 3 has emerged winners of the Mind The Gap, Digital Litracy For All, DL4ALL, Digital Onboarders Inter-Platoon Debate Competition held Saturday at the Abia NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp Umunna, Bende LGA.
In Abia camp, the competition organised for the 2024 Batch ‘B’ Stream II Corps Members witnessed intellectual engagements among the twenty (20) Presidential debaters from the ten platoons. The contest centred on the Topic – “Digital Literacy in the 21st Century, an Essential Ingredient for Inclusive Governance and Effective Leadership”.
In the keenly contested war of words and ideas, Platoon 3 was closely followed by the number 5 Platoon in second position while Platoon 9 clinged on to the third position
Earlier in her opening remarks, the Abia NYSC Coordinator, Barr. Mrs. Gladys Adama urged the digital literacy champions to always advocate for digital literacy in their various places of primary assignment when posted as it will help to promote inclusive government and effective leadership.
Speaking also, the Schedule Officer for Mind the Gap, Mr. Chimaobi Okpanku pointed out that the major goal of the Digital Literacy for all (DLA) was to achieve 20% increase in digital literacy in Nigeria by the year 2027 while he harped on the importance of digital skills in today’s world. He equally implored the corps members to join the vanguards of the digital Onboarder CDS group to propagate digital literacy in their host communities during the service year.
Also speaking, the Abia State Community Manager for Mind The Gap, Mr. Harrison Ikoro, charged the Corps Members to be agents of change as he established that despite being in the digital era, Nigeria has remained stuck in the industrial age with a World Bank survey in 2021 revealing that 56% of Nigerians lack digital literacy.
Highlights of the event were presentation of certificates and prizes to the winners and the other contestants.
