Corruption begin with a seed – Mai Dariya lecture NYSC staff

 

Staff of NYSC, Niger State Secretariat have been advised to avoid practices that tend towards corruption in the discharge of their duties.

The advice was given during a sensitization programme organized for staff of the secretariat today.

The one day event took place at the instance of the Director General, NYSC, Brig. General YD Ahmed.

The Resource Person, Mrs. Pat Mai Dariya, an Assistant Director at the Reforms Coordination and Service Improvement Department who spoke on the topic, “Corruption Prevention: Measures and Methods” noted that corruption starts with a seed. She also said that it does solve but creates problems.

She further stated that officers who receive gratification for doing a job that they are already being paid for lean towards corruption.

Mai Dariya explained that the malaise of corruption includes absenteeism, dodging responsibilities, lateness to work just to mention a few.

Ways of mitigating the scourge according to her involves public enlightenment, periodic risk study, strengthening corruption report systems, value reorientation campaigns etc.

Earlier, the Coordinator, Mrs. Olayinka Abdulwahab lauded the Director General for approving a sensitization of staff on matters of corruption. According to her, the enlightenment programme couldn’t have come at a better time.

The highly attended event was interactive, while contributions from participants are expected to be conveyed to the management of the Scheme.
