NYSC Kogi SC Emphasizes Strength In Diversity At Cultural Carnival

The 2024 B Stream II Cultural Carnival and Inter-platoon Cooking Competition in Kogi State began in grand style on Saturday 14th September, 2024 with course officials, corps members, and the camp community showcasing Nigeria’s rich cultural history.

The NYSC Kogi State Coordinator, Mr. Femi Osungbohun emphasized the value of Nigeria’s socio-cultural diversity. He said that humans originate from various ethnic backgrounds by divine design and that this diversity provides power and beauty. “There is strength and beauty in our differences,” he remarked, emphasizing how the event serves as a reminder of Nigerians’ peaceful coexistence despite their diverse cultural backgrounds.

The State Coordinator also noted that the event aims to highlight Nigeria’s many ethnic groupings and that appreciating these diversity fosters national unity. He advised the youths to develop emotional intelligence and tolerance, which are crucial for understanding and celebrating the country’s distinct cultural landscape.

The coordinator later led other course officials in a symbolic dance reflecting the different Nigeria cultures round the ten platoons with music provided by the NYSC Brigade Band.
The dance was followed by other beautiful presentations by Corps Members on a platoon basis, and prizes were also awarded to the first three winning platoons in the cooking and cultural presentations, respectively.
