The Rich and diverse cultural heritage was on displayed today at NYSC Permanent orientation camp,Bayelsa state during the cultural carnival.
In her opening remarks, the state coordinator, mrs. Okpalifo Obiageli Charity encouraged corps members to cherish and preserve our culture because it is our pride and identity.
According to her, the exposure of corps members to various cultures through cultural carnival would helped them in cultural literacy and catalysed them into embracing our cultural heritage irrespective of tribal lining .
She emphasized that
if culture is not harnessed, it would constitute a drag to national development.
She described Nigeria as having unbeatable diverse cultures which have ushered in unity in diversity as well as tourism.
She also scored NYSC high for providing the platform for youths to understand and appreciate cultural values of other people through the cultural carnival.
She informed that each cultural components like food, dances, songs, religion, and dressing displayed by the corps members is loaded with lots of lessons that can be harnessed for national unity, peace, development and integration.
She charged them to avoid cultural superiority complex, stigmatization, intolerance and biases as future leaders.
She expressed her joy seeing corps members from different cultural backgrounds wearing ,dancing and singing songs from other cultures and even competing to ensure their platoon win as a positive prospect for Nigeria.
The corps members expressed their joy, learning first hand the cultures of other people. At the end of the carnival, winners emerged as follow :
1ST Position – Platoon 4
2ND Position – Platoon 3
3RD Position – Platoon 1
