Varsity resolves to offer skill acquisition Programmes to corps members

 

Dominican University, Samonda Ibadan, has resolved to extend its partnership moves to the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Oyo State, by offering Skill Acquisition Programmes to Corps Members among other benefits at it disposal.

This was made known when the Management team of the University led by the Registrar, Rev. Fr. Sam Onyiba on a courtesy visit to the Office of the State Coordinator, Mr. Odoba Abel Oche the State Secretariat, Agodi.

Speaking at the forum, Rev. Sam who extolled the NYSC Oyo State Coordinator for his leadership style in steering the affairs of the Scheme in the State, particularly in the role of guiding the Young graduates, prayed that his efforts on the Corps members bear positive and fulfilling outcomes.

He noted that the University which was founded recently deemed it necessary to strike a partnership with NYSC in the State, particularly in the area of Skill Acquisition Programmes for Corps members. The Registrar observed that the Institution has created a training Center for Skills Acquisition in order to prepare the teeming young graduates to be employers of labour and market ready in the faces of job uncertainty. He said there is the need for young graduates to access the right combination of education, experience and skills to stand out among other candidates

Rev. Sam explained that the University resolved to offer the various Skill Acquisition Programmes such as, Data Science; cloud computing, Care-giver programme among others,to the Corps members at a very discounted rate.

While responding, the NYSC Oyo State Coordinator, Mr. Odoba Abel Oche welcomed and appreciated the University for seeing it important to seek for such healthy and progressive partnership with the Scheme. He commended the faith-based Institutions for shaping the young graduates both in learning and Character, saying their rules and regulations can be likened to the tenets of the NYSC Scheme, as it is moralistic clinic.

The NYSC boss said the NYSC Scheme has continued to be a leading light Youth programme due to its Mission and Vision Statements. “NYSC is a household name. We are the custodians of these young graduatea in terms of administration” he said.

The SC equally hinted the University team of the NYSC’s effort toincorporate Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development(S.A.E.D) as a Cardinal programme as it recognized the importance. He went further to observed that Skills Acquisition is the trending issue that will take the Youths off the streets, and the NYSC is not leaving any stone unturned to contribute to tackling unemployment bedevilling the nation and drive entrepreneurial development.

The SC thereafter appreciated the University for extending the opportunity to the NYSC in the State and assured them of the Scheme readiness to partner with the University.
