Editorial CDS Hosts Mathematics Competition at Fakunle Comprehensive School

The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) Editorial Community Development Service (CDS) Osogbo and Olorunda, Osun State, organized a mathematics competition for secondary students on Thursday, September 26, 2024, at Fakunle Comprehensive School, Osogbo. The event aimed to inspire and foster a culture of hard work, academic excellence, and problem-solving skills in the students.

The Editor of the Editorial CDS, Akinbolusere Michael Oluwatosin, expressed gratitude to the guests and thanked the school’s management for their support. He also acknowledged the CDS members for their dedication, which made the event successful.

“In line with the NYSC’s objective of promoting national development and youth empowerment, we will continue to reach out to more schools and communities,” he said. Michael encouraged the students to embrace learning opportunities, stating, “Education is the key to your future. Prepare today to lead tomorrow.”

Representing the Principal, the Vice Principal of Fakunle Comprehensive School, Mrs. Olaoye Victoria, appreciated the Corps Members for their laudable gesture. She noted that the brain-test exercises and competition would have a tremendous impact and play a significant role in the quest for empowering future leaders. “Your efforts not only challenge our students but also inspire them to strive for excellence. We are grateful for your contribution to their academic journey,” she remarked.

Speaking at the event, the Editorial Schedule Officer, Mrs. Catherine Otemuyiwa, applauded the CDS group for this commendable initiative aimed at fostering education and hard work among young students. She charged the participants to read and work hard, reminding them that they are the leaders of tomorrow. “This competition is more than just a test of knowledge; it’s an investment in your potential. Continue to pursue excellence, and the sky will be your starting point,” she encouraged.

The competition covered various mathematics topics, including algebra, arithmetic, and geometry, with eight participants from Junior Secondary School 3 (JSS3). Three students made it to the finals, with Awolola Daniel (JSS 3B) securing 1st position, Abdulwaleed Balikis (JSS 3A) taking 2nd place, and Usamat Khaled (JSS 3A) achieving 3rd place. The winners received cash prizes equivalent to a full term’s worth of school fees, along with awards and books, to recognize their outstanding performances and boost their morale.

In attendance were Mrs. Olu Emmanuel, the Editorial Staff Adviser; Mr. Agboola, the Corps Principal at Fakunle Comprehensive School; and other dignitaries who came to support and witness the event.
