Breaking: NYSC Ondo gets new state coordinator

It is always a blessing to humanity when personalities with special and uncommon attributes of according honour and preference to all and sundry are vested with the authority to lead. This aptly describes the appointment of a humble and meticulous administrator, Mrs. Kuburat Omowumi Bakare, the 22nd Chief Executive Officer of the noble Scheme in Ondo State.

Born in the sixties to a family that draws its roots from Kwara State and raised in Lagos where she attended Isale Eko Primary School between 1976 and 1981, after which she proceeded to King-Ado High School, Lagos from 1981 to 1986 for her secondary education.

The quest for more knowledge saw the dark-skinned cerebral administrator enrolling for a degree programme in a reputable institution of learning that upholds ethical standards from inception till date. A citadel of knowledge which prides itself as ‘better than the rest, the University of Ilorin where she graduated with honours from the Department of History in 1993.

Her strong believe in the second line of the National Pledge which says, ‘to serve Nigeria with all my strength’ made her to participate in the laudable NYSC Scheme, where she was deployed to Plateau State, and observed her primary assignment with Standard Newspapers, Jos, in the state capital.

Her long time dream to nurture, mentor and mould the youths of this great nation finally came to fruition in June, 1998 when she was employed as Inspector II by the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) and posted to Kaduna Secretariat where she started her fledging career with the Corps Inspection and Monitoring Branch.

Between 1999 and 2020, the eighth female to be so appointed in the NYSC Ondo State, worked at FCT Secretariat where she served diligently and conscientiously in the Corps Inspection and Monitoring Branch, and later the Corps Mobilisation Branch which afterwards metamorphosed into the Deployment and Relocation branch at the state level.

Her resourcefulness and commitment was recognised by the management, and to give impetus to the saying that the reward of hard work is more work, the unassuming and versatile Kuburat Omowumi was transferred in 2020 to Corps Mobilisation Department at the NYSC Directorate Headquarters where she distinguished herself as a dutiful, trusted and a woman of impeccable character as well as an administrator par excellence.

In 2024, upon promotion to the rank of Deputy Director in the Federal Public Service, Mrs. Bakare, who is simple and unassuming was posted to the Human Resources Management branch at the Headquarters to learn the rudiments of managing personnel and to know more about staff welfare.

Her conduct as a cool-headed administrator who has carved a niche for herself as an goal-getter when it comes to managing difficult situations and delivering positive results under intense pressure, was called to a higher responsibility of overseeing the NYSC operations in Ondo, the Sunshine State.

A very pious woman who derives her strength from the Omnipotent and Merciful Allah is happily married with adorable children, who today by the divine arrangement is the mother of nation.

The ‘Smiling Dove’ as Mrs. Bakare is fondly called within NYSC family and among her teeming admirers, has attended Leadership Training in Crime and Intelligence Management among various trainings, seminars and workshops. She has equally served in various sensitive committees, and her hobbies including reading, cooking and spending quality time with family and friends.

Mrs. Bakare who has zero tolerance for indolence, truancy, idleness and all forms of negative tendencies believes so much in humility, dignity, sincerity and being charitable as her philosophy of life.

Ondo State is indeed blessed to have another humble, diligent, meticulous, unassuming, simple but firm woman of virtue who exudes love as the NYSC Team Lead in the Sunshine State.
