JUST IN: 37 corps members to repeat service, 16 get extension

A total of 2804 Corps Members of the 2023 Batch C Stream I have successfully completed their one-year National Youth Service in Ogun State. The ceremony, which was marked by a low-key celebration, saw the issuance of Certificates of National Service to the outgoing Corps Members across the state.

In her farewell address delivered at the Abeokuta Zonal office, the State Coordinator of NYSC Ogun State, Mrs. Olayinka Diana Nasamu, congratulated the Corps Members for their dedication and commitment throughout their service year. She praised their contributions in various sectors such as education, health, and agriculture, noting that their impact had been felt across the state.

Mrs. Nasamu, however, noted that not all Corps Members concluded their service without incident. Sixteen members had their service year extended due to various offenses, while 37 were remobilized for abscondment. Additionally, two Corps Members lost their lives during the course of the service year. The Coordinator paid tribute to these fallen members, acknowledging their sacrifice and expressing condolences to their families.

Following her address, Mrs. Nasamu embarked on a tour to monitor the distribution of certificates across the different local governments in the state, ensuring the process was smooth and orderly.

In her speech, she urged the Corps Members to make use of the skills they acquired through the NYSC Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) program, highlighting the importance of self-reliance and entrepreneurship in today’s economic climate. She emphasized that while the formal job market may not be able to absorb all graduates, the vocational and entrepreneurial skills learned during service could open doors to self-employment and innovation.

Furthermore, Mrs. Nasamu encouraged the outgoing Corps Members to remain patriotic and uphold the values of integrity.
