SN. Danjuma Abdulrauf, Head National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in Camp has sensitized the 2024 Batch B Stream II Corps Members on drug abuse prevention and education at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp in Ede, Osun State.
SN. Abdulrauf began by defining drug education as providing information about drugs and their effects to promote healthy choices and prevent misuse. He described drug prevention as a proactive approach aimed at avoiding drug abuse by fostering a healthy lifestyle and informed decision-making. The session covered various commonly abused substances, including narcotics, stimulants, depressants, hallucinogens, cannabis, inhalants, and alcohol.
He stressed the importance of preventive measures and drug education in recognizing and mitigating risks. Mr. Abdulrauf noted that even common medications, such as paracetamol, can be misused if taken improperly.
In conclusion, Mr. Abdulrauf warned that any Corps Member caught using illicit substances in Camp would face arrest and announced that substance testing might soon become part of the registration process for Corps Members.
