Important Things to Know About NYSC Monthly Clearance for Corps Members

The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) clearance is an important aspect that every corps member must be aware of during their service.

Monthly biometric clearance determines whether a corps member is entitled to the monthly stipend. Failure to appear for the clearance may result in a service extension if there is no evidence to support the absence of such corps members.

The approved period for the monthly biometric clearance in Local Governments is from the 1st to the 10th of each month, excluding weekends. This schedule may vary depending on the Local Government Inspectors’ dates.

Corps members must present a duly signed clearance letter from their employer (Place of Primary Assignment) and must be present for biometric identification and thumbprinting. The identification must be successful to mark them as present on the dashboard.

The scheme has mandated that no clearance by proxy is allowed. Any corps member found engaging in this practice will be prosecuted under the NYSC bye-laws.

It is advisable for corps members to always check their dashboard after biometric clearance to ensure their status for the month has changed to “PRESENT.” In case of any complaints, they can always reach out to their LGIs in the various Local Governments.
