Leave positive legacies on the sand of time – NYSC director tells Abuja corps members

The 2024 Batch ‘B’ Stream II Corps Members in the FCT camp have been charged to make use of every opportunity, surpassing achievements of their predecessors in service, leaving positive legacies on the sands of time.

This charge was given by the Director, Corps Welfare and Health Services Department of the NYSC National Directorate Headquarters, Mr Ayodele Folorunso Benjamin Omotade, during his visit to the NYSC FCT Permanent Orientation Camp, Kubwa, Abuja, today, Monday 9th September, 2024.

The Director, who was visibly elated at the warm reception accorded him, commended the discipline and comportment of the corps members. He congratulated them on the successful completion of their various academic pursuits and implored them to remain disciplined during and after the Orientation Exercise.

Speaking further, Omotade encouraged the corps members to be useful to themselves by contributing to their own personal economy, as they could attain any height with determination, perseverance and doggedness. He urged them not to waste opportunities but rather be ready to focus on their goals.

Speaking further, the Distinguished Director encouraged the corps members to take the Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) Programme of the NYSC seriously, as white collar jobs are no longer feasible considering the present day economic realities. He further charged them to, not only take the In camp training seriously, but also avail themselves of the Post Camp training at their various places of primary assignment, reiterating the need for them to be self reliant and job creators. Speaking, he warned that, “it would be an aberration for you to still be dependent on your parents after the one year mandatory service”.

Mr Omotade further admonished the corps members to leave lasting legacies on their host communities, by identifying the felt needs and embarking on Community Development Service(CDS) projects to impact on the lives of people in their host communities. He enjoined them to shun activities that can compromise their personal security and safety. However, he advised them to take opportunities of the national service to build meaningful and lasting friendships and relationships. He thereafter prayed for a seamless and fruitful service year for the corps members.

The NYSC FCT Coordinator, Mrs Winifred Ngozi Shokpeka , earlier in her brief, presented the situation report on the Orientation Camp since commencement on Wednesday, 28th August, 2024, stating that the corps members are committed, patriotic, diligent, dedicated, responsible, disciplined and resourceful.

The event featured rich and energetic Cultural Yoruba Dance presentation by Platoon 7 Corps Members.

The high point of the Visit was the presentation of cash by the Director to some representatives of the corps members as well as a donation of one cow for celebrating the Cultural Carnival for the Orientation Exercise. The Director thereafter inspected camp facilities.
