NYSC flags-off skill acquisition program at Oyo Camp

 

 

The Director, Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development(SAED)NYSC, Mr. Aroni Sunday has implored 2024 Batch B Stream 2 Corps Members to key into the NYSC’s Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) programme so as to be independent and self-reliant, noting that it is a golden opportunity that should not be allowed to slip away.

The Director, SAED in his speech as delivered by the NYSC Oyo State Coordinator, Mr. Odoba Abel Oche during the official flag-off of the SAED Programme at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp, Iseyin mentioned that the NYSC through its Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development Programme empowers Corps members with skills that can transform their lives.

He emphasized the importance of creating opportunities that transcend traditional white-collar jobs for corps members. He further stated that SAED programme is for the Nigerian graduates mobilized for national service and the training is divided into two parts as In-camp and post- camp training. He noted that the purpose is to assist them cultivate the culture of entrepreneurship and income generation practice.

The programme is equally geared towards building their capacity for opportunities to create wealth from situations around them, identify demand driven business skills and to access funding opportunities and technical assistance in job search. He added that Corps members should develop the consciousness of finding opportunities to be active as entrepreneurs or be self employed in their profession or skills.

Earlier in her opening remark, the Assistant Director, SAED, Mrs Okolie Janet said Nigeria is a country that is dependent heavily on importation of several goods and services whereas many of the services can be rendered locally if innovation is applied. She therefore implored the Corps members to seize the opportunity to solve problems and thereby create wealth.

She stressed the importance of Skill Acquisition and encouraged the Corps Members to actively participate in the SAED program. She claimed that Corps Members with practical skills can generate income that surpasses what a salary earner is paid.

Mrs. Lebechi Hannah from the National Directorate of Employment equipped Corps members with requisite knowledge needed to become a successful entrepreneur, she thought them how to write a business plan, good marketing strategies amongst others. In a similar development, Mr. Kolade Orunile motivated the Corps members to believe in themselves as there are no limitations to what they can achieve with determination.
