NYSC Lagos Officials Conduct Refresher Session for Corps Members Ahead of Departure

Ahead of their departure tomorrow, NYSC Lagos officials have conducted a refresher session to prepare batch b stream II (2024) corps members for their upcoming service year.

The recap session was led by officials from key NYSC units, such as Corp Welfare and Health Services, CDS, Publicity and Protocol, Corps Discipline and Reward, and Corps Inspection and Monitoring unit.

Mrs. Fayintan Beatrice, Head of Corp Welfare and Health Services, elaborated on the welfare services provided by the unit, both within and outside the camp. According to Mrs Beatrice, In-camp benefits include free accommodation, kits, and food, while outside the camp, the unit ensures that employers provide corps members with their entitled benefits, equivalent to those received by permanent staff. Additionally, Mrs. Beatrice explained the various types of leave, as well as emergency procedures to follow in situations such as the death of a family member.

Additionally, Mrs. Grace Osho, Assistant Director and Head of CDS Services, reminded the corps members that they will embark on community development projects during their service year, such as donations or building a library. To achieve this, she advised them to identify a need, engage with relevant stakeholders, and prepare a viable proposal for submission to the State Coordinator within ten months of their service.

Addressing the corps members as major stakeholders of the NYSC scheme, Mrs. Aladesheun Omolola, Head of Publicity and Protocol/OBS, charged corps members to project a positive image of the NYSC scheme through effective advocacy and campaigning. She emphasized their critical role in promoting the organization’s values and interests.

Meanwhile, Mrs Akowonlehin Victoria, Assistant Director, ,Corps Discipline and Reward, cautioned corps members against engaging in unethical practices such as paying for their Place of Primary Assignment (PPA), ghosting, or online posting. Instead, she urged corps members to focus on leaving a positive impact in their communities, ensuring they depart with a lasting legacy.

Upon receiving their posting letters, Mrs. Itohan Ehimwema of the Corps Inspection and Monitoring unit advised corps members to thoroughly read the contents, save important contacts, and exhibit good behavior as ambassadors of the NYSC. In case of emergencies, corps members should inform their Local Government Inspector (LGI), who will assume responsibility for their well-being. She warned against absconding or going AWOL, emphasizing that issues with employers should be reported promptly, including unofficial demands or oppression, as the NYSC does not tolerate such behavior.
