NYSC Oyo Holds Cultural Carnival

The Cultural Carnival Day for the 2024 Batch’B’ Stream 2 Orientation Course was held at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp, Iseyin. The event which had rich display of Nigeria ‘s cultural heritage was graced by the Aseyin of Iseyin, Oba Sefiu Olawale Oyebola and the Retired Director, NYSC South West Area Office, Mr. Oluwole Amusan.

The State Coordinator, National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Comrade Odoba Abel Oche while declaring the Inter-platoon Cultural Carnival open, said that cultural carnival is a way of showcasing the beauty of our multicultural population, experiencing the beauty in diversity and projecting the country to the world. He said the Carnival will also help preserve our culture for the future generation.

He stated that the display of culture is to bring the young Nigerian graduates to the consciousness of their origin and inspire in them the sense to preserve and practice their unique culture. “If our culture is preserved, our future is preserved, he said.

In his opening remarks, the Head of Socials, Mr. Deji Lasaki described culture as one of those things that have united us in the country and it underscores why a dedicated day has been identified for it at the NYSC Orientation Camp. He also said that culture is a bedrock of our tomorrow and our strength is in our diversity as a nation.

During the Carnival display, Each Platoon presented different culture replicating the dance, dressing, music and food of some ethnic groups. Some platoons also gave brief history of the ethnic groups they are representing while modeling their traditions, religion, and marriage etc

At the end of the display, Platoon 1 emeged winner of the Inter-Platoon Carnival Competition, followed by Platoon 7 and Platoon 5 who came 2nd and 3rd position respectively. For the drama competition, Platoon 2 won, while Platoon 7 was the first runner-up and Platoon 4 was the second runner-up. In the dance competition, Platoon 9 came first, followed by Platoon 2 and Platoon 7.

Highlight of the Carnival was a show of talent by all the various units on camp. The Medical Team, Red Cross, Band, OBS, Man O’ War and the Music Band demonstrated the work they do through unique presentations.
