NYSC partners with Agric expert to train corps members

 

In a bid to combat food shortage, the NYSC has intensified efforts to incorporate Corps Members in Crop farming through the Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development programme .

In line with this development, an Agricultural expert has been engaged for the SAED hands-on training for the 2024 Batch B Stream II Orientation Programme which commenced on September 6, 2024, at the Nnamdi Azikiwe NYSC Unity Permanent Orientation Camp in Umuawulu/Mbaukwu, Awka South LGA.

Recall that recently , the Governor of Anambra State Professor Charles Soludo’ address to Corps Members recently charged Corps Members to key into the State’s Agricultural Revolution Policy aimed at combating food insecurity. Speaking at the Pilot farm set out for the project, the State Coordinator, Mrs. Blessing Ekene Iruma said the Agricultural expert, Farm Right Consultants were invited to conduct practical crop farming training for Corps Members to enable them contribute to State’s Agricultural revolution and to combat food shortage.

During the training session, participants learned nursery techniques for various crops, including tomatoes, carrots, onions, cabbage cucumbers, and watermelons.

In an interview, the State Coordinator emphasized that the initiative aligns with the Anambra State Green Revolution , highlighting the importance of empowering Corps Members with agricultural skills to contribute to the state’s food security efforts.

Corps Members and the consultant Jennifer Onugwu also shared their experiences and insights during the interview, providing a comprehensive overview of the training programme’s objectives and outcomes.”
