Oyo corps members sensitized on community development service

As part of the NYSC lecture series for the 2024 Batch ‘B’ Stream ‘II’ Orientation Course, the Assistant Director, Community Development Service, Mrs Arinola Oluwaseki Sylvia has sensitized Corps members on Community Development Service (CDS) at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp, Iseyin.

Delivering her lecture, She defined CDS as an initiative that is geared towards positive development with the sole aim of impacting the people within the corps members’ local community which was put up by the NYSC management in order to ensure that the objectives of the scheme are achieved maximally.

Enlightening the Corps members, she mentioned that CDS is one of the four cardinal programs of the NYSC which include; orientation program, Place of Primary Assignment (PPA), Community Development Service (CDS) and Passing-Out-Parade (POP)). “The CDS runs concurrently with the PPA, and it takes place in the corps member’shj
host community”, she said.

She enjoined corp members to actively participate in CDS projects because it will improve their project management skills and help them to grow.

On Community projects awards, she said that there are President’s Honours Award, State Honours Award and Chairman Honours Awards to encourage corps members who carry out CDS projects which is usually competitive. She used the opportunity to emphasize that the greatest reward they can get is the joy felt by the people that benefit from the project adding that CDS Projects can be carried out as Group CDS or Individual CDS.

She told the corps members that the project must be SMART, that is Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic and Timely. It must also be completed four months before the passing out parade takes place. She strongly advised the corp members against launching projects when it has not been approved by the State Coordinator.
