Your "whites" are what you'll wear for morning drills and many camp activities. NYSC provides some of your kit, but not all of it.
What NYSC gives you in camp
During registration you'll collect your official kit, which typically includes:
- Khaki uniform (jacket and trousers)
- Crested vest
- Jungle boots
- Face cap and belt
What you need to buy
- 3–4 white T-shirts — plain, round-neck, good-quality cotton
- 2–3 white shorts — comfortable for drills and sports
- White canvas shoes or sneakers — sturdy enough for daily drills
- 5+ pairs of white socks
Where to buy
- Before camp: markets and shops in your city are usually cheaper and give you time to check sizes.
- In camp (Mammy market): convenient, but often more expensive and sizes run out quickly.
- Online: fine if you order early — check reviews and return policies.
Getting good value
- Avoid very thin T-shirts. They become see-through and stretch after a few washes.
- Choose canvas with good grip. Drills happen on rough ground.
- Buy one size up for shorts if you're between sizes — comfort matters.
- Bring bleach and detergent. Whites get dusty fast.
