The Aseyin of Iseyin land, His Royal Majesty, Oba Sefiu Oyebola Olawale Adeyeri III has called on the 2024 Batch B Stream II Corps members deployed to Oyo State to respect the rich culture and traditions of the Yoruba people.
The traditional ruler made the call while delivering the traditional lecture for the 2024 Batch B Stream 2 at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp, Iseyin.
Enlightening the Corps members on the culture and traditions of the Yorubas, the Aseyin who was represented at the lecture by Elder Babatunde Ajayi stated that the Yorubas had a unique administrative system of olori-ebi (family head) and baale (village head) who presides over different communities before the advent of colonialism in the country.
He noted that the Yoruba culture is distinguished by their peculiar dressing of sokoto, iro and buba for the male and female, food, occupation, teaching their children in ther mother tongue, occupation and naming ther children with prefixes after their dieties.
The monarch also enjoined the Corps members to respect the festivals of the Yoruba people including ‘ oro’ and ‘egungun’festivals and their taboos enjoining them to also respect the sacredness of the belief of their host communities.
He equally charged the corps members to be well behaved, law abiding citizens in their various host communities and be ambassadors of the beautiful nature of the tribe.
Earlier in his welcome address the NYSC Oyo State Coordinator, Comrade Odoba Abel Oche appreciated the Aseyin and the good people of Iseyin land for being good hosts to the NYSC Scheme. He said the NYSC Scheme will continue to work for the development of the people of Iseyin, Oyo State and the nation in general.
Highlight of the event was the display of cultural dance by the NYSC cultural troupe and Palace drummers. The event was closed with presentation of gifts to the traditional ruler.
