Mr. Ben Shola Akinlade from The National Centre for the Control of Small Arms and Light Weapons (NCCSALW), South West Zonal District has informed NYSC Lagos Batch B Stream II Corps members about a government centre established in 1929 to combat illegal firearms manufacturing.
At the NYSC Lagos camp, Mr. Akinlade addressed the issue of corruption within the recruitment process. He explained that some organisations collect money under false pretences of using the promise of employment as a lure. He mentioned examples of organisations like Natcom, which falsely claims to oversee Nigeria’s borders.
Mr. Akinlade emphasized the importance of safety and security for corps members. He noted that this is why training and lectures on these topics are a mandatory part of every NYSC orientation camp.
He urged Corps Members to be at alert and report any suspicious activity due to the increasing concern about firearms. He stressed the importance of immediate reporting, encouraging Corps Members to ‘see something, say something’ without delay. He added that by being aware of their surroundings and speaking up, Corps Members can help prevent gun violence and ensure the safety of their community.
