NYSC now requires every prospective corps member (PCM) to have NERD clearance before online registration. In NYSC's own words: "No NERD clearance, no NYSC registration."

What is NERD?

NERD stands for the Nigeria Education Repository and Databank. It is a national database that stores and verifies academic records — including final-year projects, theses and dissertations.

When your work is uploaded and approved, your record receives a unique number that can be used to verify your credentials. NYSC uses this to confirm that graduates being mobilised are genuine.

Who needs it?

Every locally-trained graduate who wants to register for NYSC. Requirements for foreign-trained graduates may differ, so check the latest guidance before you pay for anything.

How to get your NERD clearance

  1. Get a soft copy (PDF) of your final-year project ready — the full, approved version.
  2. Go to an accredited NERD centre or the official NERD platform to register.
  3. Upload your project and submit your details exactly as they appear on your school records.
  4. Wait for approval, then download or print your clearance slip.

Do it early

NYSC has advised PCMs to get clearance before the registration window opens. The registration window is only a week long, and clearance can take time — don't wait until the last day.
