The first few days of camp are the busiest of your whole service year. Knowing what's coming makes it much easier.
Day 1–3: Registration in camp
Expect queues. Registration usually includes:
- Document screening — officials check your call-up letter, certificate or statement of result, and ID.
- Biometric verification — your fingerprints are matched to the ones you captured online.
- Medical check — a quick health screening.
- Hostel allocation and a room/bunk number.
- Kit collection — your khaki, crested vest, jungle boots and other items.
- Platoon assignment — you'll be put in a numbered platoon for the rest of camp.
Swearing-in
After registration closes, all corps members take the oath of service at the swearing-in ceremony. It's usually the first time you'll wear your full khaki uniform — make sure it fits before the day.
A typical day in camp
- Early morning: wake-up bugle, followed by morning drills and exercise in your whites
- Morning: parade and lectures (NYSC, security, health, and more)
- Afternoon: SAED (Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development) sessions
- Evening: free time, platoon activities, sports and social nights
- Night: lights out
Getting the most out of camp
- Choose a SAED skill you'll actually use. Options often include fashion design, catering, ICT, agriculture and more.
- Join something. Platoon competitions, the band, sports or drama — it's the best way to make friends.
- Rest when you can. Drills are early and days are long.
- Take care of your health. Drink water, use your mosquito net and visit the clinic if you feel unwell.
At the end of camp you'll receive your posting letter to your Place of Primary Assignment (PPA). Read about PPA, CDS and SAED.
