Your Certificate of National Service is one of the most important documents you'll own — most employers in Nigeria ask for it. Here's how to make sure you get yours on time.
Final clearance
Before you pass out, you'll go through final clearance. NYSC issues certificates only to corps members who present:
- A clearance letter from your employer (PPA)
- A clearance letter from your CDS inspector
- Your NYSC ID card
You'll also go through final biometric clearance.
Things that can delay your certificate
- Missed monthly clearances — these can lead to an extension of your service
- Pending disciplinary cases — you won't be certificated until they are resolved
- Unpaid loans — anyone who took a loan through NYSC must repay it in full first
- Incomplete CDS requirements
Passing Out Parade (POP)
The Passing Out Parade marks the end of your service year. It's currently held on a low-key basis nationwide, and certificates are issued at the Local Government level.
After you collect it
- Check every detail — name, dates and state — before you leave.
- Scan it and keep a digital copy somewhere safe.
- Make certified copies for job applications instead of handing out the original.
