Relocation (also called redeployment) lets you move to another state after posting. It isn't automatic — NYSC only approves it on specific grounds, with proper documents.
The three main grounds
1. Marriage
For married women who want to serve where their husband lives.
You'll typically need:
- Marriage certificate
- Husband's valid ID
- Proof of your husband's residence or workplace in the state (e.g. employer's letter or utility bill)
- Evidence of name change, if applicable
2. Health
For corps members with a serious or long-term medical condition that needs treatment available elsewhere.
- You'll need a detailed medical report from a recognised (preferably government) hospital, describing the condition and treatment needed.
- Minor illnesses like malaria or typhoid are usually not accepted.
3. Security
If there's a real security concern in the state or area you've been posted to, you may apply on security grounds. Explain the situation clearly and provide any supporting evidence you have.
How to apply
Applications are made through the NYSC portal and processed in camp or at the state secretariat, depending on timing. Follow the instructions on your dashboard and submit complete documents the first time.
If you're rejected
Settle into your state of deployment. Many corps members who didn't want their posting end up having a great service year — new friends, new experiences, and often a better PPA than they expected.
